Don't assume that you MUST play Portal 1 and/or 2 because you played Half-Life. Portal has been mentioned but the game is not like Half-Life. Episode 3 never appeared and people have been waiting a generation for the next installment. ![]() There is also a cliff-hanger at the end of Episode 2. If you play Half-Life 2 then the episodes are worth going through as they immediately follow events from the main game. If Half-Life 1 never existed, Half-Life 2 would still be a great game and story. A different time, a different location, different enemies. The story in Half-Life 2 is so different. Will you miss anything not playing Half-Life 1? Not really. Not to say Half Life 2 isn't an old game. They were great games but are still old games. The difference between this mod and the Half-Life: Source release is that the graphics are being completely polished.ĭepending on your tolerance, or appreciation, for older games, it is feasible to completely skip Half Life 1, or at least the expansions. One of the stand out mods would be the Black Mesa project - whereby Half Life 1 is being remade into the Source engine, used to make Half Life 2. It takes part in the realms of Half Life 2, but from memory the location doesn't appear in the full game. It is possible to play this on the PC (as someone has managed to port it onto the PC). It takes place during the events of the first game. This is a coop game mode available on the Half-Life PS2 release. Someone has already mentioned " Half-Life Decay".

![]() From the table above, we can define the default colors to work with them or can put in the RGB triplet (as a vector) directly into the plot command. Thus knowing the MATLAB RGB triples for the colors can be useful. You can use those numbers and divide the vector by 255 to use within MATLAB. Usually RGB colors have values from 0 to 255. One can specify colors using a vector that gives the RGB triple where in MATLAB, each of the three values are numbers from 0 to 1. Thus it may be easier to use the RGB triplets, and even name them ahead of time. X1 = linspace(-10,-0.1) x2=linspace(0.1,10) Īs you may see, this could get confusing to keep track of. Over decades working in the valley, the soft-spoken scientist developed an intimate knowledge of the financial and cultural pressures that encourage wheat farmers to apply too much fertilizer - even when they could save money and pollute less. Research by Ortiz-Monasterio and his colleagues has shown how farmers in the Yaqui Valley often use roughly double the amount of fertilizer necessary and that much of the excess nitrogen was being lost to the environment. Without regulation, the fight against nitrous oxide pollution is left to people such as Iván Ortiz-Monasterio, a 63-year-old agronomist from Cuernavaca who has spent his career trying to convince farmers to use nitrogen more efficiently. “In part because these types of regulations are difficult to enforce, especially considering the size of our country compared to European countries.” “Indeed, these rules do not exist in Mexico,” Juan Gabriel León Zaragoza, a spokesman for Mexico’s Agriculture Ministry, said in a statement to The Post. Britain prohibits fertilizing before planting in vulnerable areas - a common practice in the valley. That rate of nitrogen use is 50 percent higher than what is allowed by law in parts of Germany. Wheat farmers in the Yaqui Valley apply about 300 kilograms of nitrogen onto every hectare of land they cultivate - primarily by scattering urea pebbles onto the soil before planting and later pumping anhydrous ammonia gas into the irrigation water once the wheat starts growing. The problems with the over-fertilization found here, in the world’s 10th-largest greenhouse gas emitter, are also common for the developing world. The rest is kept local for breads and tortillas. The bulk of their crop is durum wheat, which is exported by cargo ship to countries in Africa and Latin America for foods such as pastas and couscous. ![]() The families who grow wheat in the Yaqui Valley run some of the most sophisticated, large-scale commercial operations in the country - the type of highly productive, heavily irrigated agricultural system essential for feeding billions of people. Last year, atmospheric concentrations of nitrous oxide showed a record-high increase, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. And it lingers in the air for more than a century. The gas is 265 times more powerful than carbon dioxide in heating the atmosphere over a period of 100 years. But it has caused 6.5 percent of the world’s current warming, and its concentration in the atmosphere is growing at an accelerating rate, surpassing even some of the worst projections. It’s a problem that the Mexican government acknowledged to The Washington Post for this story.Īs a contributor to climate change, nitrous oxide remains a mysterious villain, crudely measured and less-studied than carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. And what happens each fall in this valley underscores how difficult it is to even track these emissions accurately, let alone stop them.Įmerging scientific evidence suggests that Mexico’s emissions of nitrous oxide are significantly underestimated - emissions may be double or even quadruple what the country reports. The world’s climate conferences and pledges have done nothing to change a basic and dangerous fact: Concentrations of major greenhouse gases in the atmosphere continue to rise. In the fourth installment of our series, Invisible, The Washington Post examines how over-fertilization in Mexico results in a surge of nitrous gas that scientists and the government are grappling to understand. About this seriesThe world has pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the coming decades, but there are many ways to slash emissions immediately. ![]() ![]() These programs include the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.), Bachelor of Criminal Justice (B.C.J.), Bachelor of Healthcare Administration (B.H.A.), and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Organizational Management and Leadership. Speaking of character, during her appearance on American Idol Pickler was often derided for playing up the stereotype of the dumb redneck girl, accused of dumbing herself down to gain more votes and appeal to the masses as a sweetly na¿ve country bombshell. You know, it is a part of my life, but it doesn't define me as a person. I finally have a job I love getting up and going to every day. My career doesn't make me the person that I am. "You are who you are because you chose to be that way. "I mean I haven't changed as a person," she admits. But I'm lovin' it, so I can't complain." Those with positive numbers are the so-called DS errors (which originally stood for, well, deep doo-doo-but which Apple, concerned about its younger audiences, eventually redefined as Dire Straits). There are two categories of error messages. The Mac says you had an “illegal instruction” problem (Error 3) when in reality you simply used up all your RAM. Furthermore, Mac error messages are often flat-out wrong. Error messages are of primary value only to programmers-and not very helpful even to them. It has no idea which specific series of keystrokes, mouse clicks, and software interactions actually caused the problem. When something goes wrong deep inside the Mac, it can only report to you that something is wrong. For one thing, the error definitions themselves provide little information that you can actually use knowing that your crash was caused by an “unimplemented core routine” (Error 12 or Error -4) doesn’t shed much light on why a program keeps crashing. In reality, the Mac’s error codes aren’t nearly that enlightening. I suppose I could just have some bad games, but then why would the control panel give me an error? I'm really stumped.
